Alyssa Kardos was awarded the Institute of International Education's Centennial Fellowship to address climate change and textile waste with sustainable fashion enterprise ReMade
Alyssa Kardos (ACT, ‘17) was awarded the Institute of International Education (IIE)’s Centennial Fellowship to address climate change and textile waste with sustainable fashion enterprise ReMade in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She is one of four fellows selected for the award. As an IIE Centennial Fellow, she will work with her team to establish an upcycling center in Phnom Penh that utilizes textile waste from the rivers, honors local weaving methods, and provides employment opportunities for former sweatshop workers. As part of the grant process, she has been interviewing upcycling project managers and designers across Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina to learn best practices to implement for her center. Alyssa returned to live in Phnom Penh in January to tackle textile waste and promote Cambodian design and art.
